Unique Shadowing Experiences in Greece
Attention pre-med, med, and physician assistant students! If you’re seeking a life-changing shadowing experience, Philotimo Med Abroad can take you to Greece to explore the birthplace of Hippocrates and gain valuable insights into your future profession.
During your stay, you’ll spend 25+ hours each week shadowing. You’ll rotate through various clinical departments, including some that offer surgical opportunities. Please note that all hours are observation-only and comply with AAMC and BMA guidelines for pre-health experiences abroad.
In addition to shadowing, you’ll also participate in lab research at the Faculty of Health and Sciences at the University of Thessaly. And don’t worry if you don’t speak Greek – language skills are not required.
Program Details
The Philotimo Med Abroad Program offers a chance to shadow physicians for a minimum of 25 hours per week, in various specialties. You will experience real-life physician-patient encounters with a faculty-mentor, and go on one excursion per week to regional destinations. During the program, you will stay in a safe double room in the city center, with all amenities and meals provided. Daily personal time is available to explore the city of Larissa. The supervisor will provide 24/7 support, and opportunities to relax or enjoy activities on weekends.
Nursing Internships

- The Philotimo internship is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to experience a voluntary clinical rotation in a hospital in Greece’s best hospitals.
- Disposable/single-use equipment being sterilised and reused
- Families providing bedside care including manual ventilation

- It is the fifth most populous city in Greece. The city of Larissa is modern with beautiful squares, neighborhoods, and parks.
- Larissa is famous for being the city of Hippocrates, who resided and died there.
- It has numerous commercial shops and offers plenty of options for food and entertainment.
- Known as the “city of coffee” due to its more than 1600 cafeterias. However, other than relaxing and drinking coffee, you should spend some time sightseeing.
Why are there limited spaces?
Our partner hospitals are full working hospitals. That means there’s a reasonable limit to the number of nursing students we can send. So please remember that when one of our destinations is full, it’s full.
