A Pharmacy internship with Philotimo is an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience of pharmacy practices in the land of Hippocrates. You’ll deepen your understanding of both global and local healthcare issues. You’ll also observe medical conditions you might not see in your home country.

You can complete your pharmacy internship in the dispensary unit of a hospital, a local pharmacy, or a medical center. Apart from observing in these clinical settings, you’ll also spend time dispensing medication during medical outreaches in disadvantaged communities. All of your work at outreaches is supervised.

Doing a Pharmacy placement abroad is a great way to give your CV an extra edge and give you unique talking points during interviews. You’ll also boost your job or study applications to further your career.

Pharmacies can be found in various settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics. They often serve as a point of care for patients, offering advice, medication management, immunizations, and health screenings.

On Program Components

Approximately 25+ of shadowing per week
Student-doctor ratio of 1:1 or 2:1
Shared accommodation with another student of the same gender
Airport transfers and transportation within the program
Daily breakfast and group meals
1 Excursion per week
Health insurance: covers certain medical expenses due to accidents and illness
Program Supervisor in your city will be available when you arrive, assisting during your program

During your time abroad, you will be well supported by your new colleagues, as well as Philotimo staff local to the area. There is also an opportunity to give back to the community you will be based in through outreach, allowing you to help while you learn.

Community pharmacy

The program consists of working closely with a high-ranked pharmacist in a community pharmacy, where important care and health-related services they provided.

The shadowing schedule starts at 9:00 am and goes until 2:00 pm and starts again from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday to Friday. (Program may be subject to change).

Compounding pharmacy

Philotimo Med Abroad is afilliated with the University of Thessaly, School of Health and Sciences. Students can specifically tailor the program to individual needs. Working with the physician, pharmacist to prepare a customized experience. Using the latest techniques and devices available at the state-of-the-art University of Thessaly Lab.

You can prepare medication using several unique delivery systems, such as, for those patients who are having a difficult time swallowing a capsule instead preparedeveloping a transdermal gel cream for dermatological use.

Community Pharmacy

The pharmacy, which is situated in the heart of Larissa, receives a high volume of patients on a daily basis for medication. It is a family-owned and operated business, and the pharmacist is proficient in English. The pharmacist is dedicated to guiding patients through their daily tasks, providing education on the distinctions between medications, and assisting with other related activities.

You’ll work alongside real healthcare professionals. You can observe them in their everyday work, ask questions, and hear more about their experiences. You’re likely to get more insights into the frontline of medical care than in your home country.

A tailored approach

We are often able to tailor your internship to your interests. You can work in more than one department, focus on one particular area, or experience outreach work in the local community.

Participants will rotate through numerous specialties to diversify their experience. These can include:

Reviewing prescription orders from physicians.
Ensuring all prescriptions are legitimate and complete.
Entering prescription details into the pharmacy management system.
Preparing and labeling medications accurately.
Performing checks to ensure the right medication and dosage.
Checking stock levels of medications and supplies
